Jason Bell is a staple name in SRO Motorsports America. This statement could not be more valid as the GT America powered by AWS series kicks off 2023 with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The St. Petersburg, Florida local was a race winner in 2022 and champion in 2021.
This season Bell joins another legend in racing, Flying Lizard Motorsports, to run the GT America powered by AWS calendar. He and the Lizards will run the No. 2 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 on the 1.8-mile, 14-turn street course. The course is characterized by its changing track surface and tight turns. Together Bell hopes to secure two wins to start his season quest of becoming a series champion a second time.
He’ll put his Aston Martin Vantage and its top qualities on full display to accomplish the goal.
“The first race is huge,” Bell said. “In my opinion, it sets the whole year up. Coming out of St. Pete with both wins would be huge for our team. We are expecting nothing less.
“My Flying Lizard Aston Martin Vantage has a super stable platform with great torque that allows me to use the track to its strengths while giving me the confidence to really push the chassis to its limits.”
Of course, as much benefit comes from the driver as the car. Bell understands the nuances of the streets along with his race car. Street circuits require an amount of courage as there is little run-off space should things not go to plan. With tight competition, Bell has much to handle on track to set himself up for success.
“I am very comfortable driving this course,” Bell said. “Qualifying is at the top of the list to help produce a good result on the street courses. This race is about being precise while consistently hitting your marks lap after lap and making no mistakes.
“The most challenging part of the Grand Prix of St. Pete for me is it being a street circuit; there is little room for error with the course mostly enclosed in concrete. It makes the racing more intense, and mistakes have greater consequences.”
All work and no play would make Bell a dull boy. So, he enjoys the advantages of the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg being the opening race in his hometown. The added pressure of friends and family hoping for a win only drives Bell.
“The pressure on me to perform is huge,” Bell said. “It’s such a great event, a great city and what a weekend it will be. Last year I had my wife Danielle, and our family and friends attend. It was well over 60 people at the race. I was able to win, and it was amazing. This year again Danielle will be there to support me, and we are expecting a larger turnout than last year. The pressure will be high. This year I am 100% percent focused on winning. I have a new team; it’s a new year, and expectations are high.”

With a successful 2020 race season now behind him, GMG Racing driver Jason Bell is already making gains for 2021. Confirming a switch to Aston Martin Vantage GT4 for next season, Bell will continue his development with the potent GMG Racing program while piloting his familiar #2 on a new marque next season. Also confirming his participation in the SRO Motorsports Group Winter Series, Bell will be behind the wheel of an Aston Martin in the very near future.
“A new year means new things but a big thank you to Porsche Racing for all of their help and support over the past few seasons. Without their expertise and knowledge, we would have never been able to have the success that we had,” explained Bell. “The Aston Martin Vantage is a car that we have had our eyes on for quite some time. The customer service side of their program is second to none and will give us an even better chance to win in 2021. We have received the first car this week and have penciled in some test days to ensure that we are 100% ready.”
Utilizing a four liter, V8 Twin Turbo that pushes outs 460 horsepower, the Aston Martin Vantage utilizes an optimized ZF six-speed transmission. With a lightweight aluminum chassis based on the latest Vantage production car, an FIA steel roll cage has been installed making it legal for on track competition.
“I am beyond excited to be returning to SRO GT4 America competition with Jason Bell for 2021,” added Andrew Davis. “Adding to the enthusiasm is the fact that we will be switching to the Aston Martin marque. We battled hard all year long with the Aston Martins during the 2020 season, so I’m very familiar with the capabilities of the car. We had a very successful season with GMG Racing, and it’s a huge benefit anytime you can return with the same core group for consecutive years. I’m confident that we will be in prime spot as championship contenders in 2021. I’d like to thank Jason Bell, GMG Racing, and Aston Martin for this awesome opportunity!”
“There are so many cool things about this car, and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel,” continued Bell. “With the GT4 America Sprint and SprintX podium and championship as the main target in 2021, the Aston Martin provides our program with the best opportunity to win.”
With GMG Racing and Jason Bell confirming their participation in the SRO Motorsports Group California Winter Invitational event February 19-21 at the famed WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, the potent program and their new Aston Martin Vantage GT4 have already hit the track for their initial test sessions and will launch their new program with eyes firmly planted on the top step of the podium in 2021.
Jason Bell would like to thank all of his partners for their continued support. A huge thanks to GMG Racing, Aston Martin Racing, Ceramic Pro USA and Gridsport.

“Home event for Bell this coming weekend in St. Pete”
March 4, 2019 – After a very successful test day last week, Jason Bell was quick out of the gate this past weekend at the opening round of the GT World Challenge Sprint X event at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA). Piloting a GMG Racing prepared Audi R8 GT4 LMS with co-driver Alec Udell, the duo secured a podium result on Saturday to kick off the 2019 race season.
“Our test here a week ago proved to be valuable as we unloaded quick and were able to get to work on the fine tuning of the car,” explained Bell. “Alec is a great driver and I think we like a lot of the same out of a car so it was generally painless in the setup process. We ended practice one as the quickest car on track and were third in class, tenth overall in session two, so the weekend started on a very positive note.”
With the split qualifying session on Saturday morning, the #2 Audi would go 21st quick overall in group one but fourth in class, while group two saw an improvement to seventh overall and third in class.
Race one on Saturday afternoon saw a great drive by the Bell and Udell duo as they managed to steer their black and gold machine towards the front of the field. Pushing hard to garner the best result possible, a podium celebration was in order that afternoon with a second place finish in class, and an amazing sixth place overall.
Sunday’s race two was going the right direction before a late race pit spot cost the team a podium finish. After some slight damage as a result of some contact at the start of the race, the gearbox temperature would be on the rise and disaster would strike as the race wore on.
Bell added, “I really thought we had a chance to contend for the overall win on Sunday as we were 4th on track and within striking distance. When the gearbox reached a certain temperature, the car went into a fail safe mode and cut the power down to 70%. It hurts as we were in the position we needed to be to have a chance, but that is part of racing. We have good days and we have bad days.”
Bell will enjoy no time off as he returns to Florida to kick of the Pirelli GT4 America season on the streets of St. Petersburg this weekend. With experience on the tight confines of the street circuit, including a podium result in 2018, Bell and his GMG Racing outfit will be in search for the race win next weekend.
Jason Bell would like to thank his partners for their continued support. A special thanks to Highway Systems, Incorporated, Continental Benefits, Osteria, Frost NYC, Gridsport, Reeves Motorsports, Audi of Tampa and Global Motorsports Group. A huge shout out and thanks to Alec Udell for his performances this weekend.
